Gulf Shores is famous for its pristine white beaches, but there’s so much more to this area than just sunsets and relaxation. Hikes along the coast can attest that it isn't all about getting wet. Hikers are given an opportunity to explore different habitats while they hike through forests of Spanish moss on their way down (or up) to some secluded coves which offer privacy from crowds in order to enjoy nature's beauty without distractions.

Gulf State Park has an ample amount of outdoor activities for visitors. From hiking, biking, and camping in the park, to fishing on one of its many lakes or shooting targets. There is something here that will suit anyone's interests, and it's a great place to rent a camper van.

The Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo is a growing attraction and has a new home as of the fall of 2019. Some popular exhibits include primates, lions, bears (leopards too), and an aviary with exotic birds from all over the world.

The nickname “Pleasure Island” was officially adopted by the Gulf Shores Lions Club in 1949.

The beautiful Alabama coastline is home to more than 17,000 artificial reefs that were installed as part of the largest program in America. These manmade structures are capable of housing fish and other sea life indefinitely, which makes them an excellent Ecological Niche Acquisition Technology (ENAT) device for our ever changing oceans.

Lake Shelby is Believed to be one of the closest bodies of fresh water next to a body of saltwater in the world. It is located in Gulf State Park.
