Dates
Take a short drive in a camper van rental away from the hustle and bustle of Waikiki to this world-famous sleepy town located on the North Shore of Oahu. It is a charming surf town filled with surf shops, local shaved ice eateries, and famous shrimp food trucks.
Haleiwa is considered by many as the surfing capital of the world but has grown into a mecca for locals and tourists alike. There are many famous beaches located in this part of Oahu such as Haleiwa Beach Park, Sunset Beach and Sharks Cove. Rent a camper van for a trip to Haleiwa Beach Park to lay back and relax or head to Sharks Cove for snorkeling and the natural beauty and sea life located on the North Shore. A few less known but fun things to do while on the North Shore are visiting the Dole Plantation, taking a photo at Rainbow Bridge, and going for a hike. The Dole Plantation is a nice place to learn the history of the North Shore as it was once one of the biggest pineapple plantations in Hawaii. You can enjoy a delightful pineapple ice cream and enjoy the garden scenery. A trip to Haleiwa would not be complete without taking in the local cuisine. Matsumoto’s Shave Ice is the most famous and legendary shaved ice shop in Hawaii to enjoy this tasty treat and cool down from the sun’s rays. A trip here would also not be complete without eating shrimp from one of the famous shrimp trucks. Giovanni’s is the most popular and well-known shrimp truck, but there are many around.
Matsumoto’s Shave Ice started as a grocery store in the 1950s and is now the most famous shaved ice shop in Hawaii.
Haleiwa is home to the Banzai Pipeline, which is the most famous surfing location in the world.
Haleiwa started out as a sugar plantation in the early 1900s and served as a military airfield during World War II.
