See the Pecos River Flume Located on the northern end of Carlsbad, The Pecos River Flume is a great way to get your fill of history and architecture. Constructed in 1903, this engineering feat still remains an essential part of Carlsbad's irrigation system today.

The name of this city is a pun on its famous medical spring, which was discovered nearby.

The development of Carlsbad was due in part to water diversion. Local cattlemen recognized the value of redirecting Pecos River flow onto grazing lands on Eddy Halagueno's ranch, and thus began an irrigation project that would eventually create our beautiful city today.

Although Bruce Cabot is best known for playing Jack Driscoll in "King Kong" (1933), he also had a number of roles in John Wayne films beginning with "Angel and the Badman." The famous actor was born and raised in Carlsbad.
