The city of Greenville is named after Revolutionary War hero Nathaniel Greene. It was called Pleasantburg until 1831, and you can still see this old name used today for streets as well as businesses in some areas which hints at the town's colonial history.
Greenville was founded in 1768 as a grist mill and trading post at the foot of Reedy River Falls. When you're relaxing on your picnic blanket near Falls Park, take time to reflect on how far the city has come.
Greenville averages approximately five inches of snow per year.
